CONFIRMATION

Confirmation takes place on Sundays 1:00 - 3:00 pm.  Our confirmation ministry is a two-year program for youths in grades 7/8 (ages 13-14). Our confirmands will be challenged to learn basic bible knowledge, and about the basics of our Christian faith, according to Luther's Small Catechism.  See our curriculum outlined at the bottom of the web page.  It is done together with youth from Skudesnes Evangelical Lutheran Church.  If you would also like your youth to take part in confirmation, please contact interim pastor Ron Bestvater.

Confirmation Guidelines:

Confirmation is a wonderful and necessary part of your development in the Christian Faith. It is a time during early adolescence when you will continue your doctrinal learning and faith development, and to be nurtured in the grace God has so freely given you through faith in Christ Jesus. This two-year confirmation program is only a brief time of very basic preparation, after which you will begin transitioning to take on new responsibilities as a voting member of the church. After confirmation, through regular church attendance, and with the guidance and nurture of the Church and your parents, it's our hope and prayer that your faith development ought continue on into your teenage years, young adulthood, then all the way through the rest of your adult lives. Your pastor, and the Church as a whole, take the responsibility of teaching confirmation very seriously. Below are the following guidelines expected each year:
  • Attend every class, ask questions, participate in class, and attend worship services on Sundays.
  • Bring a bible to class; and read the bible at home. Keep a record of your personal readings. (Students will be given a bible in their first year).
  • Complete homework as given.
  • Do memorization from home.
  • Receive help from parents at home.
  • Be tested on the confirmation material on the last day.
First Year: Basic Bible Training
  • We will cover a very basic overview of the Bible from Old to New Testaments, covering stories from each section of the bible.
  • Memorize the books of the bible and know how they are divided/structured.
  • Memorize ten bible verses.
  • Memorize and be able to tell/write ten short stories from the bible: 5 from Old Testament and 5 from New Testament.
  • During worship you will begin to take on more responsibilities such as being an: usher, reader, and communion assistant. You will also be planning a worship service.
Second Year: Luther's Small Catechism
  • Sermon notes: five to be taken.  Keep them in your notebook.  It may be discussed during class.
  • Memorize Luther’s Small Catechism: Ten Commandments, Apostles' Creed, Lord's Prayer, Sacraments, etc.
  • Memorize: ten bible verses and Psalm 23
  • During worship you will begin to take on more responsibilities such as being an: usher, reader, and communion assistant. You will also be planning a worship service.
  • Participate in a Service Project
  • Attend Confirmation retreat
Confirmation can be a lot of work, but it is also a time to have fun as we learn and grow in our God-given faith, and get to know each other better. Our hope and prayer is that all of us will have a wonderful learning and growing experience as we continue to be nurtured in the faith and in God's grace--all the way from your youth into adulthood. May God's blessings and the love of Christ be upon you and your family.
