CONFIRMATION

A note from our pastor:

I would like to thank all you confirmands for your efforts and participation in confirmation class (and thank you to all you parents who faithfully brought your kids to confirmation class).  I am proud of all of you and appreciate your willingness to learn and grow.  I hope you will continue to learn and mature in faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and complete your journey of faith and service to the Lord as you live out your baptism until your final days in Christ Jesus. Remember that the essence of our Christian faith is about forgiveness of sins. Jesus loves you :)

Blessings to all of you!!

Pastor Kevin Sam

Confirmation takes place on Sundays 1:00 - 3:00 pm.  Our confirmation ministry is a two-year program for youths in grades 6/7 and 7/8. Our confirmands will be challenged to learn basic bible knowledge, and about the basics of our Christian faith, according to Luther`s Small Catechism.  See our curriculum outlined at the bottom of the web page.  It is done together with youth from Skudesnes Evangelical Lutheran Church.  If you would also like your youth to take part in confirmation, please contact Pastor Kevin Sam.

Note: Our confirmation classes for 2009-2010 have just been completed.  In May 2010, our confirmation students were given a comprehensive test (written and oral) in order to encourage them to learn and understand the confirmation material and the bible.  Confirmation Sunday is scheduled for Sunday, May 30, 2010.

Confirmation Guidelines:

As a child of God, confirmation is a wonderful and necessary part of your development in the Christian Faith. It is a time where you will be learning, growing, and be nurtured in the grace God has so freely given to you through faith in Christ Jesus. It is also a time where you will be transitioning into the responsibility as an adult voting member of the church.

Your pastor and the church as a whole take the responsibility of teaching confirmation very seriously. With that desire in mind, we want to work with you to fulfill the following guidelines below:

  • Attend every class, ask questions, and participate in class.
  • Bring a Bible
  • Complete homework as given.
  • Sermon notes: five to be taken, discussed during class, & kept in notebook
  • Memorization
  • use confirmation journals in the evenings with your parent(s)
  1. First Year:
    The Books of the Bible

  2. Second Year:
  • Attend Church
  • Memorize Luther’s Small Catechism: Ten Commandments, Apostles' Creed, Lord's Prayer, Sacraments, etc.
  • Memorize: 20 bible verses and Psalm 23
  • During worship you will begin to take on more responsibilities such as being an: usher, reader, and communion assistant. You will also be planning a worship service.
  • Participate in a Service Project
  • Attend Confirmation retreat
  • Be tested on the confirmation material.
  • Have fun! Confirmation is a lot of work, but it is also a time to have fun as we learn and grow in our God-given faith, and get to know each other better.
Our hope and prayer is that all of us will have a wonderful learning and growing experience as we continue to be nurtured in the faith and grace God has given to us.  God's blessings and the love of Christ be upon you and your family.
